23 Million – 3.6 Million Years Ago (Early Miocene – Pliocene).
The word ‘Megalodon’ derives from Greek, meaning ‘Giant Tooth’.
Megalodon was the largest fish that ever lived. The largest individuals measured up to 58.7 feet or even larger. That is about three times as big as the largest sharks in the ocean today.
Megalodon had approximately 276 teeth, arranged in five rows in each jaw.
The largest Megalodon tooth measures around 7 Inches (17.8 cm) in length, which is almost three times longer than those of great white sharks.
